Data Roaming Threshold Notification

You can now personalise your threshold alert. We will send you notifications when your data roaming pay-per-use charges exceed the below threshold.

The setting options are as follows:

  1. RM200, RM300, RM500
  2. RM300, RM500, RM800 (default)
  3. RM500, RM800, RM1000
  4. RM800, RM1300, RM2000

To change the personalised threshold, please call our Customer Service at *123# (free of charge) if you need assistance.

The alert will be sent once your data roaming pay-per-use charges exceed your selected thresholds within each Bill Cycle. This service is provided FREE of charge.

For iPad Users

If you are an iPad user, you can also receive the threshold alert on your CBR (Can Be Reached) number.

To receive this alert via the CBR number, simply register your CBR number upon plan subscription or registration.

We will not be able to send you any notifications and you might be exposed to the risk of bill shock if you do not provide a current Can Be Reached (CBR) number.

The default monthly alert for iPad users is at RM300, RM500, and RM800 based on your Bill Cycle.

Data Locking Threshold

When your data roaming pay-per-use charges have exceeded the data locking threshold (default is RM5,000), data roaming services will be automatically blocked.

You can also personalise your own preferred data locking threshold:

What is this service all about?  

The service provides local information such as hotels, restaurants, events etc. for inbound roamers who are logged on to the Maxis network.

Will an inbound roamer be charged for using this service?

Yes. You will be charged RM1.15 plus tax for a complete successful transaction.

How do I know what number to key in when I want to request for a service?

The menu is ##0000. You will have to dial "# # 0000" and press send to obtain the list of available information. The reply will be sent to you via SMS.

Can you pre-programme the numbers in the phone? Or is there any other method where Maxis sends it to me rather than me contacting the Maxis Customer Service every time I wish to use this service?  

We will broadcast the information on the service via SMS. However, you need to dial the service number in order for you to use the service.

Who do I call if I have problems using this service?

How often do Maxis update the numbers/details?  

The numbers are updated when there is new additional available information.

What are the available types of service support from Maxis Customer Service?

The types of service support available are:

Subscriber is hooked up to Maxis network and the HPLMN is Maxis roaming partner.

Subscriber is roaming in an area where coverage is provided.

No network outages.

The ## service number is valid.

Does this work for all phone models?

Yes it does.

Can customers request for their numbers to be in the black list (not to receive SMS/or use this service)?  

Not from Maxis. You have to inform or request from your Home network.

How do I activate International Roaming on my mobile phone?

You can activate International Roaming by calling our Customer Service at 123 or visit the nearest Maxis Centre. For activation, kindly bring along your passport.

Note: You will be required to provide a standard refundable deposit of RM300 per line.

How do I manually select a network from my mobile device?

To manually select a network, please follow the steps below.

I use my mobile phone in Korea or Japan?

Yes, you can. But you will require a 3G enabled phone when roaming in Korea or Japan.

What is a Data Roam Pass?

The “Data Roam Pass” is a Roaming Internet pass that allows subscribers to have Internet browsing whilst travelling in overseas. It is a daily pass at RM38/day. The pass is available for both Mobile Internet & Wireless Broadband.

How do I subscribe to a Data Roam Pass?

You can automatically enjoy the data pass upon data usage RM38 on our preferred operator. Be sure to roam on our preferred operator to enjoy this feature. The pass will be automatically provisioned to you once you reached RM38 on data roaming. Alternatively, you may subscribe the pass via UMB: 

Mobile: Dial *100# > 'International Roaming' > 'Country' and select 'Buy Daily Pass'.

Wireless Broadband: Logon to My Account Portal. Click here and follow the guidelines. 

Will I be informed on the subscription?

We will inform you via SMS when your pass has been successfully activated, for both manual and auto subscriptions. Alternatively, you can check via check status through *100#.

What does the Data Roam Pass offer?

The pass offers Mobile Internet Browsing when a subscriber is travelling abroad. The pass enables Mobile Internet browsing till midnite of visiting countries capital city time each day. Just like domestic passes, Fair Usage Policy 'FUP' applies during roaming i.e. Upon exhaustion of the respective pass fair usage quota, you will experience a reduced internet speed.

How much does the pass cost & what is the validity?

The Data Roam is RM38 per day. The pass is valid till midnite of the visiting countries capital city time e.g. If you are in Australia, the pass expires at 12 midnight Canberra time.

If I’ve reached my daily Fair Usage Quota, can I still do data roaming without any additional charges?

Yes. You can still continue browsing without any data charges even though you have reached your fair usage quota before time expiry of the pass. However, your Internet usage speed will be reduced till the end of the day.

Can I restore my Internet speed upon reaching the daily fair usage quota?

Yes. You can restore your Internet usage speed by buying a new daily Data Roam Pass @ RM38/day. To subscribe dial *100# > International Roaming > Country > Buy Daily Data Pass.

Can I unsubscribe from a Data Roam Pass?

No. the pass will expire automatically once the pass time duration has reach.

How many Data Roam Pass can I buy at one time?

There is no maximum limit to the number of passes you can subscribe; the pass(s) are stackable i.e. you can buy as many even before the fair usage quota expires. However, please note that the pass is only valid for one day and expires at midnite of the visiting local country's capital city.

Can I use this pass in any phone e.g. iPhone/ Blackberry/ Android/ Windows/ iPad/ tablets?


How much do I have to pay if my usage exceeds the Fair Usage?

If you have exhausted your fair usage quota and still continue browsing , your internet browsing speed will be reduced till the pass expiry but these usages will NOT incur extra charges.

How do I keep track on my pass usage & expiry?

Quota expiry SMS notification will be sent to you once your quota expires and usage will be throttled at lower speed; along with this, Maxis will also send a Time base SMS notification upon pass expiry (at 11:59pm roaming local time zone). Alternatively, you can dial *100#, select ‘International Roaming’, select ‘Country’ and ‘Check Status’ to check your pass validity.

Can I use Singapore Dataroam Pass or TopUp in other countries?

No, each passes only valid in that particular country. E.g. Singapore passes cannot be used in Thailand or other countries.

Can I use the Data Roam Pass in Malaysia?

No, these passes are exclusive for Roaming only.

How can I check the pass validity or usage?

You can check both the pass validity & usage via 'check status'; Dial *100# > International Roaming > Check Status

How long is the daily Data Roam Pass promotion valid?

The promotion is valid till 31 December 2014

If I use data roaming without a pass, how much will I be charged?

You will be charged pay-per-use at RM30/MB.

I am multisim user. How does the data pass work for me?

For multi-SIM users, quota sharing of roaming data pass is now available for primary and secondary SIMs.

How can I manage my data charges?
