How much is a Mobile Internet pass?

Mobile Internet Time Based passes start from RM2 a day. Monthly Passes start from as low as RM18 per month. You will be shown the price of each package before you make a purchase or subscribe to a pass.

What is the difference between a Time based pass, a Quota Upgrade Pass and a Monthly Pass?

A Time Based Pass is only a one time purchase and comes with a one-time quota and an expiry date. You are able to purhcase multiple Time Based Pass at a time.

A monthly pass is auto-renewed monthly, on your billcycle date. You can only have one active Monthly Pass at a time.

A Quota Upgarde Pass is like a Time Based Pass but it's expiry depends on your billcycle date. You can choose to purchase a Quota Upgrade Pass when you have exceeded your monthly quota (instead of RM0.30/MB PPU or Speed Reduction). Your Quota Upgrade Pass will expire when your monthly quota is refreshed.

How many passes can I have at any one time?

You can choose to purchase multiple Time Based Pass as long as you have an interval of 30 minutes (minimum) between each purchase.
However, you can only have 1 Monthly Pass at any one time. You can't purchase multiple monthly passes.

How am I charged for Mobile Internet when I am roaming?

If you are overseas and use the Mobile Internet on your phone, you will be subjected to two different charges: the foreign (overseas) data charges and the local (Maxis) data charges.
If you have an active data package, then you will only be charged for the foreign data charges. Otherwise, if you do not have an active data package OR you have exceeded your volume cap on your data package, then you will be subjected to the two different charges by the foreign (overseas) roaming operator and the local (Maxis) operator.

Do these Mobile Internet packages cover local (domestic usages) data charges while on roaming?

That depends on whether you have an active data package.
If you have signed on for a 1Day, Weekly or Monthly Mobile Internet pass, then it will cover local (Maxis) data charges and you will only need to pay the foreign (overseas) data charges. If you do not have an active data package OR you have exceeded your volume cap on your data package, then you will incur local (Maxis) data charges and the foreign (overseas) data charges.
Maxis recommends you maintain a Monthly package if you are going to actively use Mobile Internet services at home and abroad.

What if I purchase any of the Data Roam Unlimited packages?

When using data on any of the Data Roam Unlimited data packages, there will be no local (domestic usages) data charges. You will only pay a fixed fee for data service as long as you have an active subscription to a Data Roam Unlimited package.
Please go to Maxis website > Mobile & Plans > International Roaming, for more info.

Would the speed for data connection reduce when I exceed the volume cap of my Monthly pass?

Effective 9-Jan-2013, for all Data Plans with monthly quota of 1GB and above, your speed will be managed when you have exceeded your monthly quota. You can continue to browse at a reduced speed for FREE until your quota is refreshed at your next billcycle. I had subscribed for 1Day Pass and have fully utilised the maximum volume quota before the 24 hours is up, can I re-subscribe to another Day Pass?

Yes, your previous 1Day Pass will expire once it is exhausted. To avoid going into Pay-per-use, you may purhcase multiple Time Based Passes. The system will draw from the Time Based Pass that will expire first.

Can I subscribe for a Time Based Pass, a Quota Upgrade Pass and a Monthly Pass at once?

You can have multiple Time Based Pass, multiple Quota Upgrade Passes and only one Monthly Pass active at one time.
However, a Time Based Pass will always be utilised first , followed by a Quota Upgrade Pass. Once the Time Based Pass and Quota Upgrade pass expires, then the Monthly pass automatically becomes active.

What is FUP?

It is important to Maxis that we provide all our Mobile Internet customers with Mobile Internet service that is fast, reliable and available at all times. Accordingly, we have devised a Fair Usage Policy to protect the interest of all our Mobile Internet customers. The bandwidth (to upload and download files) is a shared resource, so bandwidth is divided among users in a given community. Maxis has always had a FUP and reserves the right to apply excess charges / reduction of network speed / blocking of service access  on customers whose usage exceed the FUP AMOUNT.

Click here for Maxis Fair Usage Policy

When did Maxis launch Fair Usage Policy?

FUP has always been in place since the launch of Unlimited Data Plans (in 2007).

Yes. Here are examples of fair usage policy from different service providers :

  1. Cingular, US

  3. O2, UK
  4. T-Mobile, UK
  5. Vodafone, UK and Australia
  6. Other local operators in Malaysia (i.e. DiGi, U Mobile..etc)
What is excessive usage?

Each customer’s total usage per month shall NOT exceed 10GB (to be implemented on 19/02/2014) of data volume transmitted (total upload and download usage). Again, this is introduced to ensure that our service is available to all our customers all the time.
